  • A BIT OF HISTORY
  • LOOK OUT FOR
  • THE LO-DOWN
American Heiress Dorothy Elmhurst and her husband, Leonard, founded the Dartington Hall Trust in the 1920’s. This trust encouraged the development of local crafts and businesses in the area and the Dartington estate is now renowned for its College of Arts, alternative teachings and craft centres. Dartington Glass (its original name), which was supported by this trust, came to life in the 1960’s and the factory was established in Torrington, North Devon, in 1967, and is now open to visitors. A team of experts were brought over from Scandinavia to establish the business and pass on their ancient skills and craft to the local people of Devon. Dartington Crystal is one of the few crystal makers left in England and they are fiercely proud of their products. Amazingly, it takes up to 12 craftsmen to finish one glass!
We Love: New World range of stemware offer wine glasses so large you could almost swim in them! They are this way so the large and bold flavours of the wines from the new world are perfectly catered for.

We Covet: Pebble collection vases and bowls that are so fluid and organic of form one could imagine them slowly melting away - beautiful to look at and delightful to hold!
Fine crystal must be treated with respect. Therefore do avoid dishwashing whenever possible! Handcrafted house wares, such as vases and bowls etc, may vary in shape and form every so slightly due to the way they’re made but it adds to their unique charm! The stemware is all so similar and made to the most exacting standards that you won’t notice any difference at all!
