La Rochere
  • A BIT OF HISTORY
  • LOOK OUT FOR
  • THE LO-DOWN
Founded in 1475 by Simon de Thysac, a ‘gentleman glassmaker’, La RochËre glass-works is the oldest glass-works in activity in France and certainly one of the oldest in the world. This know-how and status of "gentleman glassmaker" was handed down by family ties to male members "procreated in legal marriage" and this manufacturing secret is kept under solemn oath. In the 1970s the development of mechanical glass-making led La RochËre to introduce an automatic process for producing glass bricks, tiles and paving and then pressed glasses. Over the years it has broadened into three activity sectors: hand-made, mouth-blown, craft and table art and decoration glassware; mechanical glass-making for table art, cafÈs and restaurants; and mechanical glass-making for construction.
The range that classically symbolises France - the charming Provencal bee. Did you know it was Napoleon Bonaparte who made the bee a symbol of his reign? He liked bees because they work in an orderly and selfless fashion for the benefit of an undisputed leader (you’ll find them on Laguiole knives tooÖ). The bee motif drinking glasses have a chunky feel and are perfect for casual and al fresco drinking and entertaining.
Just the job for inexpensive heavy duty glassware - perfect for every day.
